Jupiter Pot-bellied Pig Allowed as Pet

JUPITER, FL (AP) -- Daisy the pot-bellied pig could become an official pet. The town has voted to approve an ordinance change that allows residents to keep pot-bellied pigs as domestic pets as long as they are kept indoors most of the time in a detached single-family home.
They are allowed to remain outside up to eight hours a day as a pet. Town staff before recommended allowing the pigs to be outside four hours a day to prevent them from being considered a nuisance.
Loretta Mayo south the ordinance change to keep 7-month-old Daisy in her home as a pet. Mayo had faced a code violation before the ordinance was approved. Now she is allowed to keep her pig as long as the animal is spayed.
