Here's their story:
My name is Ann Wood, I live in Gerber, CA., located in Tehama county. My
Parents & I have lived in the area for over 4 years and 2 years ago they
were given two wonderful potbelly pigs and we adopted a third from a
sanctuary a few months ago.
A few months ago we were informed that this area does not acknowledge
potbelly pigs as pets {valued members of the family} they are considered
just another swine and fall under the livestock regulations which require an
acre of land per pig. We have about > of an acre. We were given 10 days from
the date of the letter to dispose of our angels - the letter was mailed on
the 10th and it was the 18th!!
My father met with the Tehama County Planning Director and we were
granted a stay till the issue could be brought in front of the Board of
Directors for a vote in late September. The Director suggested that we check
the zoning polices pertaining to Potbelly Pigs for other cities in
California, however he did not pass on to my father how to do this. We
sought help via the Internet and found that Pot Bellied Pigs have their
hoofs in the door in many cities across the US.
I found your web site a while back and thought I might pass some
information on that I compiled while fighting to keep our four hoofed
angels. Attached is an excel spreadsheet with zoning information from a very
helpful web-site.
Also there is a link to a news article written about our case:

We still have a little fight ahead of us but there is a light at the end
of the tunnel. On November 18th the planning Commission will be meeting
again to discuss the re-zoning issue again we still have issues regarding
their compromises. They are proposing that only 2 Pot Bellied Pigs be
permitted, when not in the house, the pigs must be in either the side or
back yards, they must be spayed or neutered, tusk trimmed & not to exceed 1
inch past outer lip and have a license from animal control.
If any of this information would be helpful to others, please pass it
on.
Best Regards,
Ann
